EECP Therapy Guidelines:
EECP Therapy Guidelines from Medicare are important to know when providing EECP Therapy in a medical facility. The Guidelines are set forth based on the scientific evidence demonstrated in clinical research performed using EECP Therapy devices. EECP Therapy is proven to be an effective treatment for patients with documented Coronary Artery Disease (Ischemia) for treatment of symptoms of Angina.
According to Medicare, the EECP Therapy guidelines are for patients with Canadian Classification Class III or IV Anginal or Anginal equivalent symptoms (chest pain, SOB, fatigue, palpitations) on exertion interfering with activities of daily living despite medical therapy. Patients for EECP Therapy must demonstrate evidence of CAD with disabling symptoms backed by non-invasive or invasive testing such as: angiography, stress, nuclear stress, ECG or Holter Monitoring. Further, EECP Therapy patients must be deemed not readily amenable to surgical intervention.
Eligible Patients with current EECP Therapy Guidelines:
• Ischemic Cardiomyopathy including those with EF less than 30%
• Patients who refuse invasive treatment
• The elderly, diabetics
• Unsuitable coronary anatomy such as small, diffuse and/or distal vessel disease
• Prior failed revascularization
• Ischemic valve dysfunction
• Stunned or hibernating myocardium with reduced wall motion
• Renal insufficiency
• Multiple co-morbid medical problems
• Moderate to severe angina who cannot tolerate medical therapy
• Silent ischemia and early positive stress test
• Severe anatomy
• Prinzmetal Angina or Micro-vascular angina
• Excessive nitrate use
• Exercise intolerant
• Significantly impaired lifestyle from symptoms of chest Pain, S.O.B., fatigue or palpitations
