Reputation Management ECP & EECP Therapy
External Counterpulsation Therapy (also known as ECP or EECP) is a clinically effective treatment for patients that suffer from symptoms related to Ischemic Coronary Artery Disease. EECP treatment has been proven in hundreds of clinical studies to be a safe, effective treatment at a much lower price point than invasive surgical procedures.
External Counterpulsation Therapy is provided to an estimated 30,000 patients each year in over 1,000 medical clinics nationwide. EECP has regional strengths as the the treatment is naturally utilized in areas with a high population of retirees such as California, Arizona, Texas and Florida. The benefits of ECP Therapy are known to be fruitful for both the patient as well as the medical facility.
This article serves to discuss some recent news just released regarding the serious abuse and accusations of fraud from a regional EECP facility. It was recently announced that a Cardiology specialist in the Tri-State area (New York, New Jersey) has admitted to committing one of the largest Medicare Fraud scandals in U.S history. The news has sent shock waves through the industry as the so many of us are in disbelief one could abuse the system and jeopardize one’s reputation for sake of making excessive revenues.
The case has reported social security fraud as well as prescribing EECP treatment by unqualified medical personnel. For more details on the case, you can refer to the Forbes Magazine Article – “New York Cardiologist Admits to $19 Million in Medicare Fraud”
This case is only one of many that try to abuse our medical system for profits. This case is in no way indicative of ECP or EECP Therapy, but rather just the vehicle used to scam the system. There are thousands of credible physicians across the US that use ECP therapy for appropriate use in improving the quality of life in many of their patients.
Although EECP is the (trademarked) term referenced in this case of Medicare Fraud, we believe its use was intended to describe the general treatment External Counterpulsation Therapy rather than any intent to slander of the trademark holder Vasomedical Inc. EECP is a common use intended to describe External Counterpulsation Therapy and not generally correlated to any specific brand or mark.
